Charles was drafted into the military for WW2 and rose to the rank of a sergeant and was in the 20th Armored Division and was squad leader on a .50 caliber machine gun team. They fought at the end of the war and Schulz forgot to load his weapon.
Later, he made 1 panel comics entitled Li'l Folks in the St. Paul Pioneer press from 1947 and 1950. After it was dropped he went to United Feature Syndicate with Li'l Folks but with four panels. On October 2nd, they dropped the name Li'l Folks and instead named it Peanuts. It was added in seven newspapers.
At its height, Peanuts was in about 2,600 papers in 75 countries, in 21 languages. During the life of the Peanuts, Schulz took only one vacation. During that time, the strip ran reruns.
